Vivian Humphrey Hewer was born on May 31, 1908 in Deerwood, Minnesota. She earned her B.S. in 1929, her M.S. in 1941 and her Ph.D. in 1954, all awarded by the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hewer joined the staff at the University of Minnesota in 1947 as an instructor and student personnel worker in the Student Counseling Bureau (now University Counseling and Consulting Services).
